This graduate level course introduces students to the basic concepts and analysis techniques of Social Network Analysis. The field of Social Network Analysis is fairly new and has huge potential for furthering and innovation beyond the classical graph theory lens. The objective of this course is for the student to be able to design and conduct an independent and skillful Social Network Analysis.

INSTRUCTORS
At the end of the course, students will:
  • Understand the benefits of Social Network Analysis as well as having a grasp on the changes occurring in the field;
  • Develop a working knowledge on the Social Network Analysis programming and visualization tools;
  • Discuss the ethical considerations of gathering and analyzing data for Social Network Analysis, as well as discuss cases of big data usage;
  • Learn how to identify key individuals and groups in social networks of interest;
  • Develop a working understanding of Social Capital Theory.
